Job Description

An amazing opportunity has arisen for a part time (four days per week) Communications Manager to join an organisation based at the National Injuries Centre which aims to improve the quality of life for people living with spinal cord injury. The charity funds vital research into the complications of spinal cord injury and has recently launched its new grants programme, funding high quality clinical research that will have tangible outcomes for people living with spinal cord injury.

Based at the organisations' HO in Stoke Mandeville, the Communications Manager will undertake the following main responsibilities:

  • Work with colleagues to ensure delivery of communications and that messages are consistent and engaging
  • Work with the Research Grants Manager to promote the charity's research grants programme
  • Work with Research Grants Manager and external researchers to disseminate published research results and information to wider audiences.
  • Work with the Fundraising Manager to support corporate partnerships and provide PR and communications support for all fundraising activities in the community
  • Be responsible for the charity's website and it future content
  • Develop and provide information on website usage and impact
  • Maintain the organisations social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Coordinate all proactive and reactive interactions with media including identification of key audiences, drafting press releases, and identifying appropriate spokespeople
  • Manage relationships with agencies including briefing designers, and fulfilment of print materials
  • Coordinate the creation of the charity's annual report, working with colleagues to develop editorial content

The successful applicant will be comfortable working within a "hands on" role within a small team, and will have previous communications experience, including of promoting fundraising gained within a role within the charity sector.
