We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Developer to join our high performing IT Solutions Team at the RSPCA!
As a Lead Developer you will be providing an effective delivery service for the continuous development of the RSPCA’s strategic and business critical applications and platforms such as Liferay. You’ll be engaging directly with the organisation and be involved at all stages of the development lifecycle.
Your responsibilities as a Lead Developer will include writing code, analysing data, and contributing to the design and implementation of software.You’ll also be part of the website development which is integral to a number of transformation programs, supporting the enhanced experience for volunteers and providing improvements for the knowledge and guidance provided to the general public.
We’re looking for a highly motivated LeadDeveloper who is comfortable working with multiple stakeholders across the organisation and externally. The role involves management of a small team of four Developers and a Test Analyst (two onshore and two offshore), planning and allocating work and operating as a point of escalation for the team to maximise internal resources with high demands.

What you’ll be doing:
Having technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software development and programming
Planning and driving software construction activities
Adopting and adapting appropriate software development methods, tools and techniques
Defining, monitoring and reporting on systems development projects supporting the organisation’s objectives and plans
Developing roadmaps communicating future development activity
Understanding client requirements from collecting data to analysis and problem resolution, fulling identifying client needs
Performance management of direct reports, providing support and guidance and facilitating effective working relationships
Providing technical expertise to enable configuration of software for systems testing and collaboration with technical teams to agree integration plans
Supplier management involving reviewing supplier performance data and supporting on the resolution of supplier related incidents
Undertaking regular code reviews to ensure efficiency, accuracy and adherence to best practice
Degree educated in Computing, Data Science or Mathematics or equivalent experience
Previous experience working in a developer role and in a senior capacity
Ability to take ownership of software solution delivery and improvements (e.g Salesforce, Liferay, Talend)
Knowledge of Java and general websikills, using SOAP or REST web services/API’s
Experience of designing and delivering systems and integrations
Experience of translating business requirements into technical specifications and buildable solutions
Experience of performing code reviews
Formal qualifications in Agile or SDLC would be desirable
